Horbury is a large village in West Yorkshire west of Wakefield. The village is known for being very picturesque a very pleasant place to live. 

The villagers are proud of the famous hymn “Onward Christian Soldiers” by Reverend Sabine Baring-Gould which was written for the children who marched to the church at Whitsuntide 1865 when he was a resident of Horbury.  Horbury is also known as the birth place of the contemporary novelist Stan Barstow who wrote the novel “A kind of Loving”.  Another famous resident of Horbury was John Carr the famous architect who designed and built St Peter’s Church in 1973.  He paid for the church to be built at a cost of £8000 as a gift to the then people of Horbury.  His body is now buried in the church.
